When loving wives poisoned their loving husbands

In a remote French village the wives loved their husbands so much they couldn't bear with the idea of letting him stay away from home for longer than necessary. Add to that they were unwilling to share him with unknown women.

To combat this situation they came up with a brilliant albeit dangerous plan.

Every morning as the husband would leave for work, the wife used to give him a minuscule dose of home made slow acting poison concealed in his breakfast dish without his knowledge of course.  In the evening, as the husband would come home the wife would give him the antidote to nullify the poison. Gradually, the men developed resistance to the poison but still needed the timely antidote.

How this strategy worked? The husband needed to return home punctually every evening. If he didn't he would become sick with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash etc. It wouldn't be life threatening but inconveniencing enough to make him want to come home, and even thank his wife for making him feel better and healthy with her tea.

All this ruse led men to believe that they loved their home and wife so much that they felt sick when they had to stay away from them. And, that their wives took such absolute good care of them that they felt healthier just by being with them at home.

And that's how the term 'Home sickness' was coined.

No historical evidence has been found to date but this tale appears over all in French legends and myths. Probably one family practiced this and later it became a kind of trend? Can't say.
